Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear: “Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.” ( Mark 14:47, Today's Korean Version ) 1. Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” ( John 18:10 ) 2. Jesus' Response to Peter's Action: (a) Jesus said: “Permit even this.” ( Luke 22:51, KJV: “Suffer ye thus far”; RSV: “No more of this” ) The Greek words clarify this: “ἕως τούτου” (“heōs toutou”) = “up to this point” or “even this” “ἐᾶτε” (“eate”) = “allow it,” “let it be,” “leave it alone” Therefore, Jesus is essentially saying: “Let them do what they are doing. 혹시나 어머니가 나를 잊어버리신다 할지라도, 어쩌면 내가 내 자신을 잊어버린다 할지라도(치매), 내 주님은 결코 나를 잊어버리지 않으실 것이기에 나는 주님을 찬양합니다(이사야 49:15).  "내 영혼이 은총입어 중한 죄짐 벗고보니 슬픈 많은 이 세상도 천국으로 화하도다  할렐루야 찬양하세 내 모든 죄 사함받고 주 예수와 동행하니 그 어디나 하늘나라"(새찬송가 438장, "내 영혼이 은총 입어" 1절과 후렴).
