어떻게 주님의 종이란 목사님이 자신이 하나님의 말씀에 불순종한 이유를 이렇게 변명할 수 있을까요? 요나는 하나님이 뜻을 돌이킨 데 대하여 매우 싫어하고 성내면서 하나님께 이렇게 기도하였습니다 : “ 여호와여 , 내가 고국에 있을 때에 주께서 이렇게 하실 것이라고 내가 말하지 않았습니까 ? 그래서 내가 급히 다시스로 도망하였습니다 . 나는 주께서 은혜롭고 자비로우시며 쉽게 노하지 않으시고 언제나 사랑이 풍성하셔서 뜻을 돌이키시고 재앙을 내리지 않으시는 하나님인 것을 알았습니다 . 여호와여 , 이제 내 생명을 거두어 가소서 . 사는 것보다 차라리 죽는 편이 낫겠습니다 ”( 요나 4:2-3, 현대인의 성경 ). 저는 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 몇 가지 생각이 듭니다 : (1) 어떻게 하나님이 뜻을 돌이킨 데 대하여 매우 싫어하고 성내면서 하나님께 기도를 드릴 수 있을까요 ? 그 정도로 요나는 하나님의 뜻보다 자기의 뜻을 하나님에게까지 관철하려고 했던 것은 아닐까요 ? 만일 이것이 사실이라면 , 요나는 예수님의 기도와는 너무나 거리가 먼 기도자의 마음을 가지고 있었다고 생각됩니다 : “… 그러나 제 뜻대로 마시고 아버지 ( 하나님 ) 의 뜻대로 하십시오 ”( 누가복음 22:42, 현대인의 성경 ).
