The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. "회개"가 없는 "개혁"은 무의미합니다.
2017년 10월 31일, 세상에서는 할로윈(Halloween)으로 알고 있지만 우리 기독교에서는 개혁의 날(Reformation day)로 알고있다. 특히 금년은 개혁 500주년을 맞이하는 날이기에 그 의미를 크게 부여할 수 있을 것 같다. 그런데 나는 어제 주일 교회 식구들에게 처음으로 개혁 500주년 주일이라는 사실을 광고 시간에 알려드렸다. 내가 그리한 이유는 아마도 내 개인적인 생각이 나부터해서 우리 교회가 항상 개혁되야 한다(Always reforming)고 생각하기 때문인 것 같다. 그리고 나는 "개혁"(Reform)에는 항상(Always) "회개"(Repentance)가 전제되야 한다고 믿기 때문이다. 즉, "회개"가 없이는 "개혁"이 있을 수 없다! 그런데 지금 나부터해서 우리 기독교인들은 "회개의 눈물"이 없는 "개혁의 외침"을 부르짖고 있는게 아닌가 생각되기에 나는 "개혁"에 대한 소리를 잘 내지 않았다. 다만 내 마음에 주신 은혜대로 나는 5가지 "R's"을 설교한 적이 몇번이고 있었다:
Repentance(회개)
Reconciliation(화목)
Restoration(회복)
Reformation(개혁)
Revival(부흥)
많은 교회(혹은 대부분 교회)가 부흥이나 개혁을 외치고 있지만 지금 우리 교회는 회개를 통한 신랑되신 주님과의 관계의 화목과 회복은 강조되지 않는 것 같아 안탑갑다. 나부터 해서 우리 교회 식구들이 먼저 회개의 눈물을 흘릴 수 있길 기원한다. 그러므로 약 500년 전에 개혁주의 자들이 외치고 실제로 그리 살았던 것처럼 ...
