Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear: “Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.” ( Mark 14:47, Today's Korean Version ) 1. Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” ( John 18:10 ) 2. Jesus' Response to Peter's Action: (a) Jesus said: “Permit even this.” ( Luke 22:51, KJV: “Suffer ye thus far”; RSV: “No more of this” ) The Greek words clarify this: “ἕως τούτου” (“heōs toutou”) = “up to this point” or “even this” “ἐᾶτε” (“eate”) = “allow it,” “let it be,” “leave it alone” Therefore, Jesus is essentially saying: “Let them do what they are doing. I watched him lead through the worship wars of the 1990s, through 9/11, and through the COVID-19 pandemic. After 41 years in the pastorate, he retired. Over the summer, my mom, my brothers, and our families gathered to celebrate. It was an intimate gathering at the family camp we attended each summer since I was a boy. We also compiled a video of people from the three churches he served. Each story was unique, but I was struck by a common message. People talked about a pastor who was also a friend—someone who made them laugh, provided godly help, and walked with them through their dark and difficult days.   “ Dad, when you die, I will remember you. ” ( 아빠 ,  아빠가 죽은면 제가 기억할께요 )                   이 광야와 같은 세상은 참으로 근심된 일과 곤고한 일이 많고 죄악된 일과 죽을 일이 쌓인 세상임을 더욱더 피부로 느낍니다 .   마음이 무겁고 아픕니다 .   그런데 왠지 마음에 무거움과 아픔이 좋습니다 .   좀 더 무겁고 좀 더 아프고 싶습니다 .   그러한 가운데서 하나님께 기도하길 원합니다 .   그리고 기도하는 가운데 하나님께서 주님 안에서 우리의 만남 속에서 주신 추억들을 되새기며 마음에 더욱더 귀히 간직하길 원합니다 .   저는   ‘인생은 추억 만들기’라 생각합니다 .   하나님의 주권 속에서 허락하시는 만남들을 통하여 주님 안에서 아름다운 추억을 만들어가는 것이 인생이 아닌가 생각됩니다 .   그 만남들 가운데 부모님과의 만남이 있고 또한 형제 ,  친척 ,  친구 ,  선생님 등등 잊지 않나 생각합니다 .   어떠한 만남은 오랫 기간 동안 이 땅에서 함께 하는 가운데 평생 잊지 못할 귀한 추억을 심어주는 만남이 있습니다 .   부모님과의 만남이 그렇고 또한 부부의 만남도 그렇지 않나 생각합니다 .  또한 어떠한 만남은 잠깐 스쳐가는 짧은 만남같음에도 불구하고 강력하게 마음 판 한 구석에 깊이 심겨지는 추억들도 있습니다 .   특히 요즘 인터넷을 통하여 우리의 만남의 폭이 넓어진 가운데 하나님께서 허락하시는 짧은 만남들을 통하여 잊지 못할 추억들도 주시는 것이빈다 .   특히 서로가...
