Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear:

Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear: “Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.” ( Mark 14:47, Today's Korean Version ) 1. Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” ( John 18:10 ) 2. Jesus' Response to Peter's Action: (a) Jesus said: “Permit even this.” ( Luke 22:51, KJV: “Suffer ye thus far”; RSV: “No more of this” ) The Greek words clarify this: “ἕως τούτου” (“heōs toutou”) = “up to this point” or “even this” “ἐᾶτε” (“eate”) = “allow it,” “let it be,” “leave it alone” Therefore, Jesus is essentially saying: “Let them do what they are doing. Do not resist any further.” “If ...

For a true revival (Acts 2:37)

For a true revival   [Acts 2:37]   Last week, I listened to an interview with Pastor Kyung Won Kim on the Korean Gospel Broadcasting radio, who will be coming to our church revival meeting to preach.   In the interview, when the host asked Pastor Kim how we should prepare for the revival meeting, his answer was that we should prepare with a heart of repentance.   When I heard this answer, I couldn't agree more.   I thanked God for it, because I believe God has been preparing not only my heart but also the hearts of our church members for the upcoming revival meeting.   Today, during this Wednesday prayer meeting, I want to further prepare for the upcoming revival meeting.   I want to listen to the word of repentance to ready our hearts.   And I want to earnestly seek a heart of repentance before God.   I want to offer this supplication based on Acts 2:37, saying, "When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to...

The true church (Psalms 87)

The true church       [Psalms 87]         A. W. Tozer's book, “The Incredible Christian” is a reinstatement of true faith to warn of hypocrisy and to be a true Christian.   The author criticizes the faith that has been lopsided to one side, the faith with experience but without theology, and the unpleasant faith that isn’t deeply moved in meeting God but only has dead orthodoxy, and etc. as ‘fake faith' distorted by modern church materialism. And he shouted that we must return to the true faith of becoming the real salt of the world and of willing to bear our own cross.   Since true Christians believe in Christ's victory, they are willing to suffer in order to participate in His victory.   Five things are listed in Pastor Tozer's book list (Internet):   (1)      The real is not ashamed of the rugged cross (Ch. 1), (2)      The real rejects the cotton candy gospel and bel...

Who are the true Christians? (Romans 2:17-29)

Who are the true Christians?     [Romans 2:17-29]         In A. W. Tozer’s book “That Incredible Christian”, there is a chapter called “The Importance of Self-judgment’ (Ch. 31) in which the author Tozer talks about seven rules for self-discovery about how we know that we are real Christians.   Although these seven rules may not reveal all about the real Christians, they will be partially helpful.   Why don’t you also reflect yourself on these seven rules (Tozer):   1.        What we want most. 2.        What we think about most. 3.        How we use our money. 4.        What we do with our leisure time. 5.        The company we enjoy. 6.        Whom and what we admire. 7.        What we laugh at. ...

A true Christian (Romans 2:17-24)

Day 24: Romans 2:17-24         A true Christian       Superficial Christians, on the surface, call themselves Christians.  They also believe themselves to be true Christians.  They think of themselves as guides for others, leading them, not realizing that they themselves are blind, in darkness, foolish, and spiritual infants (Rom. 2:19-20).  They enjoy teaching others but do not seek to learn themselves (v. 21).  They emphasize an outward appearance while neglecting inner growth.   So, who is a true Christian?  A true Christian is not a superficial one, but an inward one.  An inward Christian understands that they are saved by God's complete grace.  They live with a faith that is active and real.  They do not serve with words only but focus on their inner faith rather than an outward display.   The essence of faith lies within, not in appearances.  Living accordi...

"True Revival and False Revival"

" A church filled with men and women who are delighting in God and His holiness, who are humble before God and others, and who are living out that holy delight in obedience to God's Word—that is a church that is experiencing genuine revival. Such a church would not only be attractive to those who long for spiritual reality, but it would be a great witness to the incoming kingdom of God. May God grant us such churches and people in this day." https://www.ligonier.org/learn/articles/true-revival-and-false-revival
