A crisis is a precious opportunity
to look to and rely on
God through prayer!
When
King Nebuchadnezzar heard the response,
“What
the king has asked is too difficult; no one can reveal it
to
the king except the gods, and they do not live among men,”
he
became extremely angry and issued a decree
to
kill all the wise men of Babylon.
Upon
hearing this command,
the
palace also sought out Daniel and his three friends.
At
that time, Daniel encountered Ariok,
the
captain of the king’s guard, and wisely inquired
why
the king had issued such a harsh decree.
He
asked Ariok to request a little time from the king
so
that he might interpret the dream.
Daniel
then returned to his house and explained the situation
to
his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
urging
them to pray to the God of heaven for mercy
and
to reveal the mystery so that they would not be executed
along
with the other wise men of Babylon
(Daniel
2:11-18).
As I
reflect on this passage, I am blessed by Proverbs 13:14
“The
teaching of the wise is a fountain of life,
turning
a person from the snares of death.”
God
granted Daniel wisdom in a life-threatening situation,
enabling
him to speak and act very wisely.
This
wise action was that Daniel,
together
with his three friends, prayed to God.
A
crisis is a precious opportunity
to
look to and rely on God through prayer!
