Our God is faithful, and He will surely fulfill what He has promised us in His time and in His way! “As Elizabeth was barren and they had no child, and both were well advanced in years” (Luke 1:7). While meditating on this verse, I would like to share the lessons given to me: (1) When I read this passage, I am reminded of Sarai, Abraham’s wife, in Genesis: “Now Sarai was barren; she had no child” (Genesis 11:30). Sarai, who could not conceive and had no child, “by faith … received power to conceive, because she considered Him faithful who had promised” (Hebrews 11:11). (a) While meditating on the statement that she considered the One who promised to be faithful, I am reminded of one of my favorite verses, 2 Timothy 2:13: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself” [Modern Translation: “We may be unfaithful, but the Lord is always faithful and cannot break His promise”]. ...
만일 예수님께서 하나님께서 정하신 십자가에 죽으시는 때를 피하고자 하셨다면 ... 하나님께서 정하신 때에 십자가에 죽으시고자 이 세상 오신 예수 그리스도께서는 영광을 받으실 때가 왔었을 때 마음이 몹시 괴로우셔서 " 아버지 , 나를 구원하여 이때를 피하게 해 주소서 . 그러나 나는 이 일 때문에 이 때에 왔습니다 . 아버지 , 아버지의 이름을 영광스럽게 하소서 " 라고 간구하셨습니다 . 만일 예수님께서 하나님께서 정하신 십자가에 죽으시는 때를 피하고자 하나님 아버지께 ' 나를 구원하여 주소서 ' 라고만 간구하셨다면 그 십자가에서의 예수님의 생명의 구원이 우리에게는 영원한 생명의 구원이 아니라 영원한 죽음이었을 것입니다 . 결국 예수님께서는 말씀하신 대로 자기 생명을 미워하시고 우리의 생명을 사랑하신 것입니다 ( 요한복음 12:25, 27-28, 현대인의 성경 ).
