We are taught that we must become upright people who, in God’s sight, are blameless and fully keep His commandments. “In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly” [(Modern Translation: “When Herod was king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah of the division of Abijah, and his wife Elizabeth also came from the family of Aaron. They were righteous before God and faithfully kept all the Lord’s commandments and regulations without fault”)] (Luke 1:5–6). While meditating on this passage, I would like to draw out the lessons given to us: (1) The author of Luke’s Gospel, Luke, first wrote to Theophilus about John the Baptist’s parents. 살려 두지 못할 사람 (눅 23; 롬6:23) 사도 바울은 청렴 결백한 사람이었습니다 . 하지만 그는 유대인 모든 무리에게 “살려두지 못할 사람”으로 낙인 찍혔습니다 . 총독 베스도도 그에게서 아무런 죽일만한 죄를 찾지 못했지만 유대인들은 그는 살려 두지 못할 사람으로 낙인 찍었고 그는 사형수나 마찬가지였습니다 . 그를 보면서 우리는 예수님을 생각합니다 . 고소를 당하셨을 때 빌라도는 예수님에게서 아무런 죽일 만한 죄를 찾지 못하였음에도 불구하고 유대인 무리들은 예수님을 십자가에 못 박혀 죽게 하였습니다 ( 눅 23). 이 얼마나 억울한 죽음입니까 ? 왜 예수님께서는 저주의 나무인 십자가에 죽임을 당하셔야만 했습니까 ? 그 이유는 저와 여러분들에게 영생을 주시기 위해서입니다 ( 롬 6:23). 이 영생의 선물을 받고 싶지 않으십니까 ? 받기 위해선 예수님을 믿어야 합니다 . 하나님께서 구원에 이르는 믿음을 선물을 여러분에게 주시길 기원합니다 .
