하나님의 사랑은 내가 너무 교만해질까 봐 내 몸에 가시 같은 병을 주시사 나로 하여금 고통을 겪게 하십니다(고린도후서 12:7, 현대인의 성경).  하나님은 사랑하는 우리에게 고통을 주실 정도로 교만을 미워합니다(잠언 8:13).
