We are taught that we must become upright people who, in God’s sight, are blameless and fully keep His commandments. “In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly” [(Modern Translation: “When Herod was king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah of the division of Abijah, and his wife Elizabeth also came from the family of Aaron. They were righteous before God and faithfully kept all the Lord’s commandments and regulations without fault”)] (Luke 1:5–6). 늙은 자의 아름다움은 백발입니다 . “젊은 자의 영화는 그의 힘이요 늙은 자의 아름다움은 백발이니라” ( 잠언 20 장 29 절 ). 지난 주 수요일 오전 , 한국 라디오 방송을 통해서 좀 충격적인 뉴스를 접했습니다 . 그 뉴스란 플로리다에 사는 한 50 대 한국 사람이 80 이 넘는 어머니를 전기도 나오지 않는 헛간에 가두고 약 2 주 동안 밥과 물도 제대로 주지 않았다는 뉴스였습니다 . 충격적이였던 것은 경찰이 그 노모를 발견했을 당시에 지렁이와 구데기가 그 노모의 목과 얼굴에 있었다고 합니다 . 또 다른 뉴스에는 그 노모가 벌레를 먹고 살았던 것 같다고도 합니다 . 그런데 경찰에 잡힌 그녀의 아들은 아무 양심의 가책도 느끼지 못하고 당연하게 생각하였다고 합니다 . 그의 변명은 경제적 어려움으로 인하여 집을 계조하여 다른 사람들에게 하숙을 주기 위해서 자기 어머니를 사용하던 방에서 창고로 옮겼다는 것입니다 . 저는 이 뉴스를 접하면서 마음에 분노가 일어났습니다 . 그리고 주일 설교 주제와 본문을 바꿔 “노인”에 대한 하나님의 말씀을 묵상해야 겠다는 결심을 하고 오늘 말씀...
