Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear: “Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.” ( Mark 14:47, Today's Korean Version ) 1. Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” ( John 18:10 ) 2. Jesus' Response to Peter's Action: (a) Jesus said: “Permit even this.” ( Luke 22:51, KJV: “Suffer ye thus far”; RSV: “No more of this” ) The Greek words clarify this: “ἕως τούτου” (“heōs toutou”) = “up to this point” or “even this” “ἐᾶτε” (“eate”) = “allow it,” “let it be,” “leave it alone” Therefore, Jesus is essentially saying: “Let them do what they are doing. 오직 하나님께 희망을 두십시다!  우리가 이 땅에서 잠시 머무는 나그네에 불과합니다 .   우리가 이 세상에 사는 날이 그림자와 같아서  아무런 희망이 없습니다 ( 대상 29:15).   " 그러나 보이는 희망은 희망이 아닙니다 "( 롬 12:12).   우리는 없어질 재물에 희망을 두지 말고  오직 하나님께 희망을 둬야 합니다 ( 딤전 6:17).   그 이유는 우리의 희망의 원천은 하나님이시기 때문입니다 ( 롬 15:13).   그러므로 우리는 항상 희망을 가지고  더욱더 주님을 찬양해야 합니다 ( 시 71:4).
