Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear: “Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.” ( Mark 14:47, Today's Korean Version ) 1. Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” ( John 18:10 ) 2. Jesus' Response to Peter's Action: (a) Jesus said: “Permit even this.” ( Luke 22:51, KJV: “Suffer ye thus far”; RSV: “No more of this” ) The Greek words clarify this: “ἕως τούτου” (“heōs toutou”) = “up to this point” or “even this” “ἐᾶτε” (“eate”) = “allow it,” “let it be,” “leave it alone” Therefore, Jesus is essentially saying: “Let them do what they are doing. 더 이상 이렇게 가증한 일을 하는 목사가 되고 싶지 않습니다 .   교인들이 세상에 나가서  하나님의 말씀을 버리고 하나님께 죄를 범하고 있는데  목사인 내가 그들이 교회 와서 예배 드릴 때  죄를 회개하고 하나님께 돌이키시라는 설교보다  오히려 거짓 위로와 격려의 설교로 말미암아 힘을 얻어  그들로 하여금 세상에 나가서 양심의 가책이 없이 더 담대하게 죄를 범하게 만들어서는 아니 됩니다 ( 참고 : 예레미야 23 장 13-14 절 ).
