For some of us, it’s been a while. In our hard-working, highly productive culture, we can sometimes feel like exhausted swimmers swept downstream in a fast-moving river, fighting to keep our heads above water, gasping for air. We get up early and stay up late. We never waste a minute. Our schedule is full, running here, running there, running late, running to catch up, running on empty, until we collapse in utter exhaustion. Underneath the satisfaction of being hard-working, hard-playing people is a weariness that’s desperate for the pace to relent so we can rest and recharge. 왜 십자가인가? 유대인 지도자들은 예수님을 자기들의 손으로 친히 돌로 쳐서 죽일 수 있었습니다 [ 스데반 집사처럼 ( 사도행전 7:58). 그럼에도 불구하고 그들은 예수님을 이방인인 로마 사람들 ( 로마 총독 빌라도와 로마 군인들 ) 의 손을 빌려서 예수님을 십자가에 못 박아 죽였습니다 (2:23, 현대인의 성경 ). 그 이유는 그들의 입장에서는 유대인의 처형법인 돌로만 쳐죽여서는 안될 정도로 예수님을 큰 악한 죄인으로 여겼기 때문입니다 . 그들의 생각은 예수님이 자칭 하나님의 아들이라고 말하여 신성 모독의 큰 죄를 범했기 때문에 로마인의 사형수 처형법인 십자가에 예수님을 못 박아 죽였어야 했습니다 . 그 이유는 바로 신명기 21 장 23 절 때문입니다 : "... 나무에 달린 사람은 하나님께 저주받은 자입니다 . ...." 그 유대인 지도자들의 입장에서는 예수님은 신성 모독 죄를 범했기에 마땅히 하나님께 저주 받은 자였기에 나무인 십자가에 못 박아 죽였어야만 했습니다 . 그래서 그들은 이방인 로마 사람들의 손을 빌려 예수님을 십자가에 못 박아 죽인 것입니다 .
