In our hard-working, highly productive culture, we can sometimes feel like exhausted swimmers swept downstream in a fast-moving river, fighting to keep our heads above water, gasping for air. We get up early and stay up late. We never waste a minute. Our schedule is full, running here, running there, running late, running to catch up, running on empty, until we collapse in utter exhaustion. Underneath the satisfaction of being hard-working, hard-playing people is a weariness that’s desperate for the pace to relent so we can rest and recharge. Day 6: Distrust, disobedience, discontentment “But for all this, you did not trust the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 1:32). Those who believe in God obey His word. And those who obey God's word believe in Him. The more we obey God's word, the more we experience His guidance, leading us to have even greater faith in Him. When we obey God, we come to know Him more as our God. Those who do not believe in God disobey His word. And those who disobey God's word do not believe in Him. The more we disobey God's word, the less we experience His guidance, leading us to dwell more in disbelief. When we disobey God, we become more ignorant not only about God's nature but also about ourselves, making us prone to sin more against God in our hearts, driven by arrogance and pride.
