이해할 수가 없었습니다. 다윗왕의 신하들은 이해할 수가 없었습니다 . 어떻게 다윗왕은 심한 병에 걸린 자녀가 살아있을 때에는 울고 금식하다가 그 자녀가 죽은 후에는 일어나서 식사를 하는지 이해하지 못했습니다 ( 사무엘하 12:21, 현대인의 성경 ). 다윗의 답변은 “ 아이가 살았을 때 내가 금식하고 운 것은 여호와께서 나를 불쌍히 여겨 혹시 아이를 살려주실지도 모른다고 생각했기 때문이었소 . 그러나 이제는 아이가 죽었는데 내가 무엇 때문에 금식하겠소 ? 내가 그를 다시 살릴 수 있겠소 ? 언젠가 나는 그에게로 가겠지만 그는 나에게 영영 돌아오지 않을 것이오 ”(22-23 절 , 현대인의 성경 ). 그런데 저는 첫째 아기 주영이가 살아있을 때에는 울지도 않고 식사를 잘 하다가 그 아이가 죽은 후에는 통곡하고 식욕을 잃었었던 것 같습니다 .
