If a human being tries to seat himself in the “place of honor,” he will ultimately be put to shame; but if he seats himself in the “lowest place” (the place of Jesus Christ), God will exalt him. “Now He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them, ‘When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, “Give your place to this man,” and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place. But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, “Friend, move up higher”; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you. 하나님의 일을 생각하지 않고 사람의 일을 생각하면 넘어질 수밖에 없습니다. 베드로는 예수님께 “ 모든 사람이 다 주님을 버린다 해도 저는 절대로 주님을 버리지 않겠습니다 .” 하자 예수님이 베드로에게 “ 내가 분명히 너에게 말하지만 바로 오늘 밤 닭 울기 전에 네가 세 번이나 나를 모른다고 말할 것이다 .” 하셨습니다 . 그러나 베드로는 “ 내가 주님과 함께 죽는 한이 있더라도 절대로 주님을 모른다고 하지는 않겠습니다 .” 하고 장담하였습니다 . 그리고 다른 제자들도 다 그렇게 말하였습니다 ( 마태복음 26:33-35, 현대인의 성경 ). 저는 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 몇 가지 생각이 듭니다 : (1) 역시 “ 절대로 ” 란 말은 절대하면 안 된다는 생각입니다 . 하하 . (2) 예수님께서 “ 분명히 ” 베드로에게 말씀하셨다는 것은 그 말씀이 ‘ 반드시 ’ 이루어진다는 생각입니다 . (3) 비록 베드로는 자기 입으로는 “ 내가 주님과 함께 죽는 한이 있더라도 절대로 주님을 모른다고 하지는 않겠습니다 ” 하고 말은 했지만 실제로 그는 예수님께서 “ 분명히 ” 베드로에게 “ 바로 오늘 밤 닭 울기 전에 네가 세 번이나 나를 모른다고 말할 것이다 ” 하신 말씀대로 예수님을 세 번이나 모른다고 부인했습니다 (70, 72, 74 절 ). 하나님의 일을 생각하지 않고 사람의 일을 생각하면 넘어질 수밖에 없습니다 ( 참고 : 마태복음 16:23).
