A. What Is Biblical Mission? “Biblical mission means more than simply going overseas to plant churches or spread civilization. It means the church participating in the ‘mission of God (Missio Dei)’ and seeking the restoration of God’s rule and glory throughout the whole earth. Mission is not a program that begins with human enthusiasm; rather, it is the heart of God that runs throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and is a fundamental reason for the church’s existence. 예수 그리스도를 아는 바른 지식에서 나오지 않은 열심으로 ... 예수님을 믿기 전에 사울은 나사렛 예수님의 이름을 대적하는 일이라면 발벗고 나서야 할 것으로 생각하고 예루살렘에서 그 일을 직접 감행했습니다 . 그는 대제사장들에게서 권한을 받아 많은 성도들을 감옥에 가뒀으며 또 그들을 죽이는 데에도 찬성했습니다 . 그리고 모든 회당을 돌아다니면서 그들을 처벌하고 강제로 예수님을 저주하게 했습니다 . 더우기 그들에 대하여 화가 머리 끝까지 치밀어 오른 사울은 외국의 여러 도시에까지 가서 신자들을 괴롭혔습니다 ( 사도행전 26:9-11, 현대인의 성경 ). 그 때 사울은 " 이것이 하나님을 섬기는 일이라 " 고 생각했습니다 ( 요한복음 16:2). 하나님께 대하여 사울의 열심은 바른 지식에서 나온 것이 아니었습니다 ( 로마서 10:2). 이렇게 사울처럼 예수 그리스도를 아는 바른 지식에서 나오지 않은 열심으로 예수님의 재림을 소망하는 우리 그리스도인들을 핍박하고 심지어 죽이기까지 하는 자들이 앞으로도 더 많이 있으리라 생각됩니다 .
