하나님께서는 예레미야 선지자를 통해 유다 백성들에게 이집트로 가지 말라고 말씀하셨을 때 이사랴와 요하난과 그 밖의 모든 교만한 사람들은 하나님께서 예레미야를 보내 그들이 이집트에 가서 살면 안 된다는 것을 말하라고 하지 않았다고 예레미야에게 말했습니다. 그러면서 그들은 바룩이 예레미야를 선동해서 자신들을 대적하게 한다고 말했습니다. 그런데 그들은 하나님의 명령에 불순종하여 이집트로 가면서 바룩도 같이 갔습니다(예레미야 43:1-7,
현대인의 성경). 저는 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 교만한 사람들의 말(바룩이 예레미야를 선동해서 자신들을 대적하게 한다고 말했는데)과 행동(바룩도 거느리고 이집트로 함께 갔음)이 다르다는 생각이 들었습니다. 언행일치가 안 되는 제 자신의 모습은 결국 제가 교만해서 그렇다는 책망입니다.
