만일 우리가 주님이신 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도께서 자기의 모든 특권을 버리시고 자기를 낮추시사 종의 모습으로 제자들의 발을 씻어 주신 그 사랑의 섬김의 모범을 알고 우리도 발을 씻어 줄 정도로 겸손히 서로를 섬기면 우리는 행복할 것입니다(마태복음 16:16; 요한복음 11:27; 13:14-17; 빌립보서 2:7-8, 현대인의 성경).
