우리 성경 교사들은 "바른 교훈"(sound doctrine)을 거스르는(딤전 1:10) "다른 교훈"(false doctrines)을 가르치지 말아야 합니다(3절). 만일 우리가 "다른 교훈"을 가르치면 우리나 우리에게 배우는 교인들은 "헛된 말에 빠져"(6절) "바른 말 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 말씀과 경건에 관한 교훈을 따르지" 않을 것입니다(6:3). 그리고 우리는 "경건의 모양은 있으나 경건의 능력을 부인"할 것입니다(딤후 3:5). 만일 우리가 "다른 교훈"에 몰두하고(딤전 1:4) 따르면(6:3) 우리는 "교만하여 아무 것도 알지 못"할 것입니다(4절). 그리고 우리는 "하나님의 경륜"을 이룸보다 도리어 변론을" 낼 수 밖에 없습니다(1:4). 즉, 우리가 다른 교훈에 몰두하고 따르면 우리는 "변론과 언쟁을 좋아하"여 "투기와 분쟁과 비방과 악한 생각"을 하면서 "마음이 부패"해 질 것입니다(6:4-5). 또한 우리는 "진리를 상실하고 신앙을 이익의 수단으로 생각"할 것입니다(5절, 현대인의 성경). 그러기에 우리에게는 "다툼이 그칠 날이 없"을 것입니다(5절, 현대인의 성경). 지금 우리 교회가 그렇지 않나요?
우리 성경 교사들은 "바른 교훈"을 가르쳐야 합니다. 우리는 "우리 주 예수 그리스도의 말씀과 경건에 관한 교훈을" 가르쳐야 합니다(6:3). 이 교훈은 우리에게 맡기신 바 복되신 하나님의 영광의 복음을 따름입니다(1:11). 그리고 그 "교훈의 목적은 청결한 마음과 선한 양심과 거짓이 없는 믿음에서 나오는 사랑'입니다(5절).
