아버지 야곱은 더 사랑하는 아들 요셉이 죽은 줄만 알고 있었습니다. 그것도 22년 동안이나(요셉이 17살 때 형들에게 미움을 받아 미디안 상인들에게 팔려 애굽에 보디발에게 팔린 후 30살에 애굽의 총리가 되고 39살에 흉년 2년 째 되는 해에 아버지 야곱을 다시 만나기에). 그런데 죽은 줄만 알았던 요셉이 살아있고 애굽의 총리가 되었다는 소식을 그의 아들들에게 접해 들은 후 이렇게 말합니다: "족하도다 내 아들 요셉이 지금까지 살아 있으니 내가 죽기 전에 가서 그를 보리라(창 45:28). 그리고 나서 야곱은 직접 요셉을 만나고 나서는 요셉에게 이렇게 말합니다: "네가 지금까지 살아 있고 내가 네 얼굴을 보았으니 지금 죽어도 족하도다"(46:30). 그렇게 말했던 야곱이 야곱의 두 아들인 에브라임과 므낫세를 축복하기 전에 요셉에게 이렇게 말합니다: "내가 네 얼굴을 보리라고는 생각하지 못하였더니 하나님이 내게 네 자손까지도 보게 하셨도다"(48:11). 에베소서 3장 20절 말씀이 생각납니다: "우리 가운데서 역사하시는 능력대로 우리가 구하거나 생각하는 모든 것에 더 넘치도록 능히 하실 이에게."
