산다는 것이 우리에게 어떠한 의미가 있습니까?
세상의 모든 일이 다 괴로운 것뿐이며 허무하여 바람을 잡으려는 것과 같습니다.
우리가 수고한 모든 일이 아무 쓸모가 없는 것은 우리 다음 사람에게 그 모든 것을 물려주어야 하기 때문입니다.
그런데 그가 지혜로운 사람일지 어리석은 사람일지 누가 알겠습니까?
우리가 온갖 정력과 지혜를 쏟아 이룩한 것을 그가 다 관리할 것이므로 이것도 역시 헛된 것입니다.
그러므로 우리는 이 세상에서 고되게 일한 것을 후회하게 될 수 있습니다(참고: 전도서 2:17-20, 현대인의 성경).
