하나님의 말씀을 듣고 "걸림"이 되야 합니다. 입술로는 주님을 공경하면서 마음을 주님께 멀리 떠나 있는 우리들 ( 마 15:8), 사람이 만는 법을 마치 예수님의 교훈인 것처럼 가르치므로 주님을 헛되이 경배하는 우리들 (9 절 , 현대인의 성경 ), 우리의 전통으로 하나님의 계명을 범하는 우리들 (3 절 ), 부모님에게 들려야 할 것을 하나님께 드렸다고만 하면 부모님을 공경하지 않아도 된다고 가르치는 우리들 (5-6 절 , 현대인의 성경 ), 마음에서 나오는 것이 " 악한 생각과 살인과 간음과 음란과 도둑질과 거짓 증언과 비방 " 으로서 우리 자신을 더럽히고 있는 우리들 (19 절 ), 이렇게 바리새인들처럼 외식하는 우리들은 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 " 걸림 "(offended) 이 되야 합니다 (12 절 ).
