What is worship?

What is worship?

"... worship is 'the work of acknowledging the greatness of God.'  This definition implies that worship is for the sake of God, not ourselves. ...  The definition also implies that worship is active, not passive: the work of acknowledging God's greatness.  ...  In Scripture, the language of worship is used both broadly and narrowly.  In the narrow sense, worship is what we do when we gather to honor God's greatness (Heb.10:25).  In the broader sense, it is laying down one's own body as a living sacrifice and therefore not being conformed to the world(Rom.12:1-2).  In this sense, all of life is worship (cf. Eph.5:1-2; Phil.4:18; Heb.13:15-16; James 1:26-27)."
