The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 생사에 갈림길에 놓여 있는 사랑하는 식구를 위해 하나님 아버지께 기도할 때 기적을 구합니다. 그 기적이란 죽음의 문턱에서 살아나는 것입니다. 그래서 우리는 하나님 아버지께 사랑하는 식구를 살려달라고 간절히 기도할 수 밖에 없습니다. 그런데 기적 중에 기적은 죽은 나사로가 다시 살아난 것보다(요11장), 허물과 죄로 말미암아 영적으로 죽었던 우리가 하나님의 사랑과 전적인 은혜로 중생(reborn, regeneration)했다는 것입니다. 우리가 영적으로 다시 살아난 것입니다(첫째 부활). 이것이야 말로 기적 중의 기적입니다. 이 기적은 하나님의 은혜로 예수님을 믿는 우리가 이미(Already) 경험했습니다. 그런데 우리 아직(Not-yet) 경험하지 못한 기적 중의 기적이 있습니다. 그것은 예수님께서 이 세상에 다시 오시는 날(재림) 주님 안에서 잠든 자들(죽은 자들)이 다시 살아서(둘째 부활) 공중에서 주님을 만나 새 하늘과 새 땅에 들어가 영원히 주님과 함께 살 것입니다. 이러한 기적 중의 기적을 우리가 앞으로 경험할 것입니다.
