The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. "너희 염려를 다 주께 맡기라 이는 그가 너희를 돌보심이라"(벧전5:7)는 말씀을 믿지 않기에(못하기에) 우리는 염려를 하고 또 합니다. 분명히 예수님께서는 "너희는 목숨을 위하여 무엇을 먹을까 몸을 위하여 무엇을 입을까 염려하지 말라"(눅12:22)고 말씀하셨는데 우리는 우리 목숨을 위하여 염려합니다. 그러면서 우리는 "너희는 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 하여 구하지 말며 근심하지도 말라"(29절)는 예수님의 말씀에 불순종하여 지금도 계속 구하고 있습니다. 우리의 변명은 "구하라 그리하면 너희에게 주실 것이요 ..."(마7:7상)입니다. 우리는 하늘에 계신 우리 하나님 아버지께 구해야 할 것에만 익숙하지 구하지 말아야 할 것에는 생소합니다. 우리는 서로 영광을 구하지도 말아야 합니다(요5:44). 오히려 우리는 예수님을 구해야 합니다(마28:5). 그리고 우리는 먼저 하나님의 나라와 하나님의 의를 구해야 합니다(6:33). 우리는 위의 것을 구해야 합니다(골3:1).
