Faith is ...

Faith is ...  "faith is that confidence, bestowed on us by God's grace, and drawn out of us by his greatness, which makes us willing to entrust our whole selves to him."   (C. D. "Jimmy" AGAN III, "The IMITATION of CHRIST in the GOSPEL of LUKE")

6 Commitments to Imitate Jesus' self-denial

6 Commitments to Imitate Jesus' self-denial Self-denial is the opposite of self-definition.   In order to practice the kind of self-denial that Jesus did,  we must therefore turn away from false standards  which so often shape our identity, values, and goals,  instead allowing God and his purposes to define the things  that are most important to us and about us.   Commitment 1: I will not define myself according to my group status.   Commitment 2: I will not define myself according to my accomplishments.   Commitment 3: I will not define myself according to reputation or appearance.   Commitment 4: I will not define myself according to what I posses, enjoy, lose, or lack.   Commitment 5: I will value God's testimony about me more than I fear anyone's judgment against me.   Commitment 6: I will pursue God's vision for me rather than conforming to human expectations of me.   (C. D. "Jimm...

Self-denial and Self-humilation

Self-denial and Self-humiliation I want to imitate Jesus' pattern of servant-like self-denial and self-humiliation that characterizes his entire life and ministry.   "Take the lowest place, the only place from which it is possible to truly love others, as you have seen me doing throughout my ministry, and as you will continue to see me do on the cross - and beyond."   (C. D. "Jimmy" AGAN III, "The IMITATION of CHRIST in the GOSPEL of LUKE")

Christlike hospitality

Christlike hospitality "Christlike hospitality involves moving someone from the statues of 'stranger'(a place outside the family) to that of 'brother' or 'sister'(a place at the heart of the family)."   (C. D. "Jimmy" AGAN III, "The IMITATION of CHRIST in the GOSPEL of LUKE")

Christlike passion

Christlike passion   "Christlike passion for the glory of God involves the whole person loving the whole God."   (C. D. "Jimmy" AGAN III, "The IMITATION of CHRIST in the GOSPEL of LUKE" )

Assurance of our Father's love

Assurance of our Father's love Although Satan  tempts us to seek assurance of our Father's love in our outward circumstances,  like Jesus  we must find it in our Father's promise.   (As I am reading C. D. "Jimmy "AGAN III's "The IMITATION of CHRIST in the GOSPEL of LUKE")

Jesus' commitment to God's glory

Jesus' commitment to God's glory   Jesus' commitment to God's glory in the garden of Gethsemane:   Jesus honored God through ...   1. Prayer 2. Suffering 3. Submission   (C. D. "Jimmy" AGAN III, "The IMITATION of CHRIST in the GOSPEL of LUKE" )

Suffering forward, toward a goal!

Suffering forward, toward a goal! "Paul suffers forward, toward a goal.   His acceptance of suffering is not acquiescence.   His acceptance of suffering is a sign of hope and an act of faith."   (L. Anne Jervis, "At the Heart of the Gospel")

Forgiveness ...

Forgiveness ... "Forgiveness focuses not on the offender's sin  but on how God  (in his wisdom and goodness) may be using the offense  for His glory."   [Lou Priolo, "Bitterness"]

When you forgive ...

When you forgive ... "When you forgive, you are promising to no longer hold your offender's trespasses against him.   You are also promising to impute your forgiveness to him (much like Christ imputed His righteousness to you when you became a Christian).   The dictionary defines the verb 'impute' as follows: (1) 'to charge with the fault or responsibility for'; (2) 'to attribute or credit.' When you promise not to impute your offender's trespasses against him, you are promising to no longer charge him for what he has done.   This means you are not going to allow yourself to dwell on the offense.   You will refuse to cultivate those seeds of hurt, but rather will immediately pluck them out of the soil of your heart."   [Lou Priolo, "Bitterness"]

Bitterness

Bitterness "Bitterness is the result of not forgiving others.   If you are bitter at someone, it means that you haven't truly forgiven that person. ...   Bitterness is the result of dwelling too long on a hurt.   Evidences of Bitterness   1. Difficulty in resolving conflicts 2. Acts of vengeance 3. Withdrawal 4. Outbursts of anger 5. Biting sarcasm 6. Condescending communication 7. Criticism 8. Suspicion and distrust 9. Intolerance 10. Hypersensitivity 11. Impatience 12. Disrespect 13. Rebellion against authority 14. Misuse of authority 15. Depression 16. Doubts regarding salvation 17. Remembering with great specificity the details of an offense."     [Lou Priolo, "Bitterness"]

The single greatest cause of atheism ...

The single greatest cause of atheism ...  "The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle.   This is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."   (Ronald J. Sider & Ben Lowe, "THE FUTURE OF OUR FAITH")

"Charis"(헬라어로 "은혜"라는 뜻)

"Charis"(헬라어로 "은혜"라는 뜻) "Charis(A Greek work that means "grace") is defined as 'the merciful kindness of God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of Christian virtues."   [Thayer's Lexicon in "Your BLUEPRINT for LIFE" by Michael Kendrick] 이 'Charis"란 이름은 제가 첫째 딸에게 지어준 이름입니다.

"Be encouraged."

"Be encouraged." "Be encouraged. God doesn't waste a thing.   Your inadequacies and your history will both be leveraged by God as powerful components that will work in your favor to complete your calling."   (Michael Kendrick, "Your BLUEPRINT for LIFE")

Simple daily obedience in little things

Simple daily obedience in little things "It is important we remember that our goal in our struggles lies outside of trying to understand God's plan. We'll never do it.   Furthermore, he never asks that of us.   Instead, he wants to see our trust in him through simple daily obedience in little things.   Little things often begin in little places."   (Wayne Stiles, "WAITING on GOD")
