잡혀가시던 예수님을 멀찍이 따라갔었던 사도 베드로(눅22:54), 예수님를 세 번이나 부인한 후(55-60절) 닭이 곧 울었고(60절) 주님께서는 돌이켜 베드로를 보셨습니다(61절). 왜 예수님은 돌이켜 베드로를 보셨을까요? 예수님께서는 어떠한 베드로를 보셨을까요? 자기에게 "내가 주와 함께 죽을지언정 주를 부인하지 않겠니이다"(마26:35)라고 말했던 베드로를 보셨을까요? 자기를 세 번이나 부인한 베드로를 보셨을까요? 아니면 장차 "사람을 낚는 어부"를 보셨을까요?(마4:19)
