어머니의 말을 잘 듣고 시키는대로 하는 자녀 늙어 언제 죽을지 모르는 아버지 이삭은 나이가 많아서 눈이 어두워 잘 볼 수 없게 되었기에 그가 사랑하는 맏아들 에서를 마지막으로 축복해 주려다가 둘째 아들 야곱에서 속아서 야곱을 축복했습니다 . 이 과정에 배후 조정자는 바로 야곱을 사랑하였던 어머니 리브가였습니다 . 리브가는 자기 남편 이삭이 맏아들 에서에게 하는 말을 엿듣고 에서가 사냥하러 들고 나간 사이에 야곱을 불러 그로 하여금 자기의 말을 잘 듣고 자기가 시키는 대로 하게 한 것입니다 ( 창세기 25:28; 27:1-8, 현대인의 성경 ). 맏아들이 받아야 할 아버지의 축복을 둘째 아들로 하여금 가로채서 받게 한 사람은 어머니였습니다 . 그 어머니의 말을 잘 듣고 그녀가 시키는 대로 한 둘째 아들이 결국 아버지의 축복을 받은 것입니다 .
