마리아는 복이 있는 여자였습니다. 그 이유는 그녀는 주님께서 하신 말씀이 반드시 이루어지리라고 믿었기 때문입니다(누가복음 1:45).
주님께서 그녀에게 하신 말씀은 처녀인 마리아가(27절) 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이라는 말씀이었습니다(31절). 남자를 알지 못하는 그녀가 성령님이 그녀에게 임하사 하나님의 능력이 그녀를 덮으시므로 거룩한 하나님의 아들을 낳을 것이라는 말씀이었습니다(35절). 그 아들의 이름은 "예수"고, 그는 큰 자요, 지극히 높으신 이의 아들이요, 주님께서는 그에게 다윗의 왕위를 주시사 야곱의 집을 왕으로 다스릴 것이며 그 나라 무궁할 것이라고 약속하셨습니다(32-33절). 마리아는 능하지 못하심이 없는 하나님의 말씀대로 자기에게 이뤄지길 믿음으로(45절) 기원하였습니다(38절).
