주님께 순종하는 것 같아 보이는데 돈을 사랑?
"브올의 아들 발람"(민 22:5), 그는 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 것 같아 보이는데(12-13, 18, 34, 20-21, 38; 23:12, 26; 24:12-13절) 모압 왕 발락이 "그대를 높여 크게 존귀하게 하고 그대가 내게 말하는 것은 무엇이든지 시행하"겠다고 하니까(22:17; 24:11) "발락이 그 집에 가득한 은금을 내게 줄지라도 ..."라고 답변을 했다(22:18; 24:13). 모압 왕 발락은 바람을 높여 크게 존귀하게 해주겠다고 했는데 발람은 가득한 은금을 언급했다. 발람은 왜 이리 엉뚱하게 답변한 것일까? 그 이유는 발람은 "불의의 삯을 사랑"했기 때문이다(벧후 2:15).
입술로는 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 것 같아 보이는데 마음으로는 돈을 사랑하는 자이다(마 6:24; 딤후 6:9-10).
