욥은 고통 중에 있는 자기를 위로하려고 온 친구들이 무슨 생각을 하고 있는지와 자기를 해치려는 계획도 다 알고 있었습니다그래서 그는 자기 친구들에게 "너희 위로가 어찌 헛되지 않겠느냐너희 대답은 전부 거짓말뿐이다"라고 말했습니다(욥기 21:27, 34, 현대인의 성경).
