الفصل السادس : إخلاء « الرياء » رأينا فيما سبق كيف ينبغي لنا أن نخلي ذواتنا من الكبرياء الذي يدفع الإنسان إلى رفع نفسه فوق الله، ومن الطمع الذي لا يكتفي بالله بل يطلب باستمرار أن يمتلك المزيد . والآن ننتقل إلى خطية عميقة أخرى، هي « الرياء » . الرياء هو الرغبة في أن نظهر أمام الناس بصورة تختلف عن حقيقتنا . فهو أن نحمل في داخلنا أفكارًا ومشاعر معينة، بينما نتصرف في الخارج وكأننا لا نحملها، وأن نهتم بتقييم الناس لنا أكثر من اهتمامنا بنظر الله إلينا، فنزيّن إيماننا بحسب ما نريد أن يراه الآخرون . لذلك فإن إخلاء الذات من الرياء لا يبدأ بمحاولة الظهور أمام الناس كمسيحيين أفضل . بل يبدأ بأن ننظر إلى حقيقتنا أمام الله بكل صدق، من دون أن نخفي شيئًا . قد نستطيع أن نخدع الناس . وقد نستطيع، إلى حدّ ما، أن نتحكم في الصورة التي يراها الآخرون عنا . لكن لا ينفع أي قناع أمام الله، لأن الله لا يرى فقط ما يظهر ...
Transformation “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith” (Romans 12:1-3). We have already learned from Romans 12:1-2 that the key to a life of spiritual worship is change or transformation. The question is, are we transforming or are we deteriorating? What is truly amazing is the lives of our Christians, who do not transform even though we worship hundreds of times and say countless times...
