The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 내 영혼이 내 안에서 피곤하였을 때 나는 근심 중에서 하나님께 부르짖었습니다(시107:5-6). 내가 하나님의 말씀을 거역하며 지존자의 뜻을 멸시하였고(11절) 미련하여 죄악을 길을 따르고 악을 범하였으므로(17절) 하나님께서는 나에게 고통을 주어 나의 마음을 겸손하게 하셨습니다(12절). 내가 엎드러져도 돕는 자가 없었을 때(12절) 나는 고통과 환난 중에 하나님께 부르짖었습니다(13, 19, 28절). 그 때 하나님께서는 하나님의 말씀을 보내시사 나를 고치시고(20절) 나를 고통과 위험한 지경에서 건지셨으며(6, 13, 19, 20절) 나를 그 고통에서 인도하여 내시고(14, 28절) 나를 바른 길로 인도하시사(7절) 내 인생의 광풍을 고요하고 잔잔하게 하셨습니다(29절). 하나님은 사모하는 영혼에게 만족을 주시며 주린 영혼에게 좋은 것으로 채워주셨습니다(9절). 그러므로 나는 하나님의 인자하심과 내 인생에 행하신 기적으로 말미암아 하나님을 찬양할 것입니다(8, 15, 21, 31절).
