The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 다시 가버나움으로 돌아오신 예수님께서는 집에서 하나님의 말씀을 전하셨을 때 많은 사람들이 모여들어 문 앞까지 꽉 차서 발 들여놓을 틈도 없었습니다(마가복음 2:1-2, 현대인의 성경).
과연 그 많은 사람들이 진정 하나님의 말씀을 사모해서 예수님께 온 것인지 아니면 그보다 예수님께서 더러운 귀신 들린 사람을 치유하신 소문(1:23-28)과 병들고 귀신 들린 사람들을 모두 예수님께 데려왔을 때 예수님께서 갖가지 병으로 고생하는 많은 사람들을 고치시고 귀신들을 쫓아내셨기에(32-34절, 현대인의 성경) 예수님께 온 것인지 잘 모르겠습니다.
중요한 것은 저는 주님이 기름부어 세우신 주님의 종으로서 예수님을 본받아 “하나님의 복음”(14절) 또는 “하나님의 말씀”(2:2, 현대인의 성경)을 듣는 사람들이 많든지 적든지 간에 또는 그들이 하나님의 말씀을 듣든지 아니 듣든지 간에(에스겔 2:5, 7; 3:11) 또한 그들이 듣기에 하나님의 말씀이 “좋든지 좋지 않든 지를 막론하고”(예레미야 42:6) 하나님께서 명령하여 이르게 하시는 모든 말씀을 “한 마디도 빼놓지 말고”(26:2, 현대인의 성경) “성실함으로”(23:28), “부지런히(25:3, 현대인의 성경) 그리고 “꾸준히”(26:5) “그대로 선포”해야 한다는 것입니다(2절, 현대인의 성경).
