A. What Is Biblical Mission? “Biblical mission means more than simply going overseas to plant churches or spread civilization. It means the church participating in the ‘mission of God (Missio Dei)’ and seeking the restoration of God’s rule and glory throughout the whole earth. Mission is not a program that begins with human enthusiasm; rather, it is the heart of God that runs throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and is a fundamental reason for the church’s existence. Let me clearly summarize five essential principles of true mission as presented in Scripture. 🌍 1. The Mission of God (Missio Dei) The subject and initiator of mission is not human beings but God. In order to save fallen humanity, God first comes to us, sends His Son, and sends the Holy Spirit. He is the “missionary God” who sends. “가까운 이웃 마을에도 가서 전도하자. 나는 이 일을 하려고 왔다.”
예수님을 찾아다니던 시몬과 그 일행은 예수님을 만나자 “모든 사람이 주님을 찾고 있습니다”하고 말하였습니다.
그 때 예수님은 그들에게 “가까운 이웃 마을에도 가서 전도하자.
나는 이 일을 하려고 왔다”하시고 온 갈릴리를 다니시며 회당에서 전도하시고 귀신들을 쫓아내셨습니다(마가복음 1:36-39, 현대인의 성경).
저는 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 몇 가지 생각하게 됩니다: (1) 왜 “모든 사람”이 주님을 찾고 있었을까 생각할 때 그 이유는 그들은 예수님에게 치유(healing)를 받고 싶어서라 생각합니다.
(2) 그러나 예수님께서 이 세상에 오신 목적은 치유보다 전도(preaching)였습니다.
우리의 삶의 목적이 무엇인지 생각해 보면 좋을 것 같습니다.
(3) 예수님은 전도를 하시되 있으셨던 곳에서 “가까운 이웃 마을”에 가서 전도하신 것을 보면 우리도 우선은 “가까운 이웃”인 예수님을 믿지 않는 우리 가족이나 친척이나 친구나 직장 동료 등에게 전도해야 한다는 교훈을 받습니다.
(4) 예수님께서 또 “귀신들을 좇아내”신 것을 보면 생각보다 그 당시 1세기 때 귀신들린 사람들이 참 많았나 봅니다(27, 34절; 5:12-13; 마태복음 8:16, 31-32; 누가복음 4:36, 41; 8:2, 31-33; 10:17, 20;
13:32; 사도행전5:16; 8:7; 19:12-13; 고린도전서 10:20; 요한계시록18:2, 현대인의 성경).
