The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 여호람 왕은 본받아야 할 자기 아버지 여호사밧이나 유다의 아사왕은 본받지 않고 본받지 말아야 할 이스라엘 왕들의 악한 행실을 본받아 유다와 예루살렘 백성으로 하여금 우상을 섬기게 했습니다(역대하 21:12-13, 현대인의 성경).  우리는 예수님을 본받아(참고: 고린도전서 11:1) 하나님께서 보시기에 옳은 일을 해야지 사탄을 본받아 하나님께서 보시기에 악을 행하면 안 됩니다(참고: 열왕기하 18:3, 24:19, 현대인의 성경).
