한 나라의 왕인 사울은 자기 나라를 침략하는 적군인 블레셋 사람들과 싸워야 함에도 불구하고 자기 나라의 충성된 사람이요 아군인 다윗 한 사람을 끈질기게 추격하여 죽이려고 한 것을 보면(사무엘상23) 그는 어리석은 왕이었다고 생각합니다: “어리석은 통치자는 자기 백성을 탄압하여도 청렴한 통치자는 정치 생명이 길 것이다”(잠언 28:16, 현대인의 성경), “분노는 미련한 자를 죽이고 질투는 어리석은 자를 죽이는 법이다”(욥기5:2, 현대인의 성경).
