어쩌면 지금 하나님께서는 하나님의 종들을 통하여 우리에게 끊임없이 “아무도 두 주인을 섬길 수 없다.
그렇게 되면 한편을 미워하고 다른 편을 사랑하든가 아니면 한편에게는 충성을 다하고 다른 편은 무시하게 될 것이다.
너희는 하나님과 재물을 함께 섬길 수 없다”(마태복음 6:24,
현대인의 성경)라고 말씀하고 계시는지도 모릅니다. 만일 지금 우리가 하나님과 재물을 함께 섬기고 있다면 하나님께서는 우리에게 “너희는 모두 악한 길과 악한 행동에서 돌아서라”고 말씀하고 계시는지도 모릅니다. 우리는 재물이나 돈을 우상화하여 섬기거나 숭배하지 말아야 합니다. 그것은 하나님을 노하게 하는 것입니다. 만일 우리가 하나님의 말씀에 불순종하여 하나님을 노하게 하면 이것은 우리가 스스로 화를 불러들이는 것이요 하나님은 우리를 사랑으로 징벌하실 것입니다(예레미야 25:5-7,
