The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 여리고를 정탐한 두 정탐꾼은
여호수아에게 와서 "우리는 여호와께서 그 땅을 우리에게 이미 주신 것을 확신합니다"라고 말했습니다(여호수아 2:23, 현대인의 성경). 제 생각엔 그 두 정탐꾼의 확신은 하나님께서 그들로 하여금
여리고에서 만나게 하신 라합으로 인해 가지게 된 확신 같습니다.
제가 그리 생각하는 이유는 그 두 정탐꾼이 여호수아에게 "그들은
우리가 무서워서 벌벌 떨고 있었습니다"(23절, 현대인의 성경)라고 말했는데 그 말은 라합이 그 두 정탐꾼에게 "우리는 당신들을 두려운 존재로 여기고
있습니다. 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람들이 이스라엘이란 말만 들어도 무서워 떨고 있답니다"(9절, 현대인의 성경), "그런 말을 듣는 순간
우리는 당신들이 무서워 정신을 잃고 말았답니다"(11절, 현대인의
성경)라고 말한 내용에 근거하고 있기 때문입니다. 이렇게 라합의 확신이 그 두 정탐꾼으로 하여금 확신을 갖게
한 것입니다. 우리도 승리의 확신을
가지고 전진해 나아갈 때 우리 주위에 형제, 자매들에게도 확신을 갖는데 도구로 쓰임 받을 수 있습니다.
