하나님은 니느웨 사람들이 악한 길에서 떠난 것을 보시고 뜻을 돌이키셔서 그들에게 내리겠다고 말씀하신 재앙을 내리지 않으셨습니다(요나
3:10). 그러나 요나는 매우 싫어하고 성냈습니다(분노했습니다)(4:1). 그는 “사는 것보다 차라리 죽는 편이 낫겠습니다”(3절, 현대인의 성경)라고 하나님께 기도할 정도로 성냈습니다. 그 이유가 무엇일까요?
혹시 요나는 이스라엘 백성들의 원수인 앗수르 사람들(니느웨는 앗수르의 수도로서 니느웨 사람들은 앗수르 사람들임)이 진정 멸망하길 원했던 것은 아닐까요?
