The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 하나님의 뜻을 알지 못하고 다른 생각과 계획을 가진 저 같은 교만한 자도 ...
하나님께서는 앗시리아를 하나님의 분노의 막대기로 사용하시사 그 군사력으로 범죄하고 회개치 아니한 이스라엘 백성을 벌하셨습니다. 그러나 앗시리아 황제는 하나님의 뜻을 알지 못하고 다른 생각을 가지고 세계를 정복할 계획을 세웠습니다. 이렇게 하나님께서는 교만하여 자기의 능력과 힘과 지혜를 자랑하고 과시하는 앗시리아 황제도 사용하시사 하나님의 뜻을 이루신 후에는 그를 벌하셨습니다(참고: 이사야 10:5-13, 현대인의 성경). 저는 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 하나님께서는 하나님의 뜻을 알지 못하고 다른 생각과 계획을 가진 저 같은 교만한 자도 사용하시사 하나님의 뜻을 이루시고 계시다는 생각이 들었습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 하나님께서는 교만한 저를 통해서도 하나님의 뜻을 이루신 후에 저를 벌하시기 보다 사랑으로 징계하시사 겸손케 하셔서 하나님의 뜻을 깨닫게 하시어 그 뜻에 순종케 하시는 것 같습니다.
