여리고 성에서의 승리 후 아간의 불순종으로 말미암아 아이 성에서는 3,000 쯤만 보냈다가 36 죽임을 당하면서 전쟁에서 패했습니다( 7:4-5).  아간의 문제를 아골 골짜기(괴로움의 골짜기)에서 해결한 후 다시금 아이 성과의 전쟁할 때에는 처음보다 10배나 많은 용사 30,000 보내어(8:3) 하나님의 전략대로 순종하므로 이스라엘 백성들은 전쟁에서 승리했습니다(4-29).
