Chapter 11: Emptying “Grumbling” In the previous chapter, we looked at the life of emptying ourselves of sexual immorality and wrongful desires and turning our love back toward God. Now, in Chapter 11, we will look at another problem that easily settles into our hearts and onto our lips. It is a grumbling heart. As we go through life, there are many moments when we grumble. “Why did this happen to me?” “Why does that person treat me this way?” “Why is my family going through such a difficult time?” “Why is the church like this?” “Why did God allow this?” Even when we do not speak these words aloud, we may repeat them countless times in our hearts. But in the Bible, grumbling is not merely a matter of uttering a few complaints. 성경 "욥기" 하면 주로 우리는 "고난"을 당하는 욥이란 인물을 생각하는 것 같습니다. 그래서 우리는 주위에 고난을 당하는 형제, 자매들과 대화할 때 '고난 당한 욥'에 대해서 말하곤 하는 것 같습니다. 그런데 저는 오늘 욥기 1장 말씀 묵상하면서 욥이란 인물을 '하나님이 주의하여 보고 계시는 가정 사역자'란 생각이 들었습니다. 그 근거는 욥기 1장 4-5절과 마지막 장인 42장 13-17절을 보면 성경은 욥의 가정에 대해서 말씀하고 있기 때문입니다. 욥기서 전체에 시작과 마지막 부분이 욥의 가정에 대해서 말씀하고 있기 때문에 저는 욥은 가정 사역자란 생각이 들었습니다. 그리고 하나님께서 사탄에게 "네가 내 종 욥을 주의하여 보았느냐 그와 같이 온전하고 정직하여 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 자는 세상에 없느니라"(욥기1:8)는 말씀에 근거해서 하나님께서는 욥을 주의하여 보고 계셨다는 생각을 하게 되었습니다. 그래서 저는 욥의 가정에 갑자기 임한 '고난들'[(1) 소유물을 다 잃어버림, (2) 10명의 자녀들도 다 잃어버림, (3) 욥의 건강도 다 잃어버림] 가운데서 '하나님의 주권적인 뜻'을 이루어 나아가셨다는 것이 욥기 전체의 핵심 주제라 생각합니다.
