한국 장로교(합동) 교회에서 자라난 저는 제 모태 신앙이 무엇이 잘못되었을까 고민이 많이 되었고 지금도 됩니다. 그 중에 한 고민은 제 신앙이 하나님 보시기에 옳지 않는 율법주의적인 종교관과 생활이라 생각합니다. 자라나면서 주일에 공부하면 안되었고, 돈을 써서도 안되었습니다. 미국에 와서는 유아 세례를 받은 자로서 입교를 했지만 몸만 교회에 다니고 있었습니다. 그저 주님 보시기에 합당치 않은 저의 율법주의적인 잘못된 종교 생활을 끊어 주시길 기원하는 마음으로 말씀을 전했습니다:
