'..., 네가 나를 사랑하느냐?'
예수님께서 저 같은 자에게 '제임스야, 네가 나를 사랑하느냐?'라고 물으십니다. 그것도 한번이 아니라 세번, 아니 세번이 아니라 수 없이 물으십니다. 예수님께서는 수 없이 예수님을 부인하고, 수 없이 실패하는 저 같은 죄인에게 '제임스야, 네가 나를 사랑하느냐?'고 묻고 계십니다.
예수님께서 말씀하신대로 십자가에 못 박혀 죽으셨건만 그 십자가에 죽으신 예수 그리스도를 전파하므로 사람을 낚는 어부가 되기보다 다시 본업인 고기 잡은 어부로 돌아간 베드로에게(요21:1-3) 예수님께서는 찾아 오셔서 "요한의 아들 시몬아 네가 나를 사랑하느냐"(16절)고 물으셨던 것처럼 예수님께서는 저 같이 사람을 낚는 어부의 삶을 살지 않고 낙망하고 실망하여 옛 삶으로 수 없이 돌아가는 자에게도 '제임스야, 네가 나를 사랑하느냐?'고 묻고 계십니다.
이해가 되지 않습니다, 왜 수 없이 실패하고 수 없이 낙망하는 자에게도 이렇게 찾아오셔서 예수님께서 '제임스야, 네가 나를 사랑하느냐?'고 묻고 계시는지... 예수님의 사랑의 질문에 저는 마음으로 이렇게 고백할 수 밖에 없습니다: '예수님, 제가 너무나 부족하지만 주님을 사랑하는 것 아시죠?'
