우상을 만들어 숭배하는 사람들은 어리석고 무식하여 자기들이 하는 짓을 깨닫지 못하며 진리에 대한 눈과 마음이 어두워져 있습니다.  그들은 생각할 능력이나 지식이나 지각이 없습니다.  그들은 거짓에 미혹되어 자신을 구할 수도 없고 자기 손에 들고 있는 우상이 신이 아니라고 말하지도 못합니다(참고: 이사야 44:18-20, 현대인의 성경).
