듣는 마음이 있는 지혜로운 그리스도인은(왕상 3:9) 바른 교훈을 듣지 자기 욕심을 따르면서 자기의 귀를 즐겁게하는 말을 듣지 않습니다(딤후4:3). 하나님의 종을 통하여 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 양심에 찔림이 있어서 그 하나님의 종을 미워하며 싫어하는 목사 킬러가 되지 않고(행7:54), 오히려 그 목사님의 권면대로 자신의 죄를 하나님께 회개합니다(2:37-38).
신사적인 사람으로서 고상한 심령을 가지고 있습니다. 그는 열심을 다하여 날마다 성경을 상고합니다. 그는 간절한 마음으로 하나님의 말씀을 받습니다. 그는 모든 열심으로, 모든 자원함으로 하나님의 말씀을 받습니다. 그는 마치 시냇가에 심은 나무의 뿌리가 시냇가에 흐르는 물을 빨라 들이듯이 하나님의 말씀을 잘 받아들입니다. 그는 말씀의 수용력이 있습니다. 또한 그는 하나님의 종을 통하여 들은 말씀이 과연 기록된 하나님의 말씀과 부합하는지 날마다 성경을 통해서 직접 자신이 확인합니다. 그는 말씀의 수용력과 더불어 균형있게 그 말씀을 잘 필터(filter) 하여 듣습니다(행 17:10-15).
