Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 이미 죽으셨지만 지금도 ...
"... 그가 죽었으나 그 믿음으로 지금도 말하느니라"(히 11:4).
믿음의 사람 아벨은 이미 죽었지만 "그 믿음으로서 지금도 말하"고 있습니다(4절). 그는 자기 친형 가인에게 쳐죽임을 당했지만(창 4:8) "믿음으로 ... 가인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님께 드림으로 의로운 자라 하시는 증거를 얻었"습니다(히 11:4). 믿음의 주요 온전케 하시는 예수님은(12:2) "자기 땅에 오셨으나 자기 백성들까지도 그분을 영접하지 않"고(요1:11, 현대인의 성경) 오히려 그들은 예수님을 십자가에 못박아 죽였습니다(눅 23:18, 21, 23). 비록 예수님은 이미 십자가에 죽으셨지만 지금도 그분의 복음은 온 세상에 전파되고 있습니다. 사랑하는 장인 어르신은 이미 죽으셨지만 "그 믿음으로 지금도 말하"고 있습니다(히 11:4).
