나를 보내신 분의 뜻을 이루기 위해서"였습니다. 예수님을 보내신 하나님의 뜻은 예수님에게 주신 모든 사람을
하나도 잃지 않고 모두 다 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도를 믿고 영원한 생명을 얻어 예수님께서 우리를 마지막 날에 다시 살리는 그것입니다(요한복음 6:38-40). 이 하나님의 뜻을 이루시기 위해 예수님께서는 십자가에 죽으시기 전 날 밤 겟세마네 동산에서 "아버지, 아버지께서 원하신다면 이 고난의 잔을 내게서 거두어 주십시오. 그러나 제 뜻대로 마시고 아버지의 뜻대로 하십시오"라고 간구하셨습니다(누가복음 22:42, 현대인의 성경).
